A thousand guilders for a used Bonneville? That was well paid.
What were early Japanese worth after a few years? Peanuts.
Many of our first motorcycles were in the price range up to 1000 guilders. The engines had been used. And we had no money. Later only twenty or thirty years later such a machine was no longer just 'old', but a sought-after classic for which you could no longer score all imaginable - and a few unthinkable - parts for a few peaks at every motorcycle run.
We see the matter repeat from our own circle.
Now the scarce young motorcyclists buy a great motorcycle for a few hundred euros. Not their dream motorbike, but a motorbike that they can pay for, that they are happy with and that they can ride on.
What will frighten them in thirty years when they see what the engine from their youth is worth then.
