Just like in the Netherlands, the government-sponsored scrapping scheme is also history in Germany and Italy. For our Eastern neighbors, it involved five billion (!) Euros in wasted taxpayers' money and an unknown number of environmental damage.

The demolition scheme ended there in September 2009. In April, no less than 2009 fewer new car sales were achieved in 25,5 compared to the same month. And 2009 was already such a bad year ... In Italy too, the blow after the cancellation of the scrapping premium came in twice as hard. For the Italians, this party ended in March 2010 and the April month became the worst in terms of car sales in fourteen years! Industry associations BOVAG and RAI think that the biggest misery is behind us in our country. They call that such 2010 new cars will be sold in 410.000 and thereby increases the earlier estimate of 380.000 units ... This optimism is based on growth in the last five months. Then let's just give a thumbs up to all those dealers in their glass palaces ?!
