Class of 62, MG B

One of the most famous cars that have turned 50 this year is the MG B. The fun sports car has remained in production until 1980. In 1965 a closed version came on the market that, very appropriately, was called BGT.

Because of the fixed roof and the large luggage space, it was a perfect tourer. The MG C and the MG CGT were introduced in 1967. On the outside they looked a lot like the MG B and the MG BGT and in 1973 it was decided to spoon a thick V8 engine in the small engine room of the MG BGT. This version was only built with a right-hand steering wheel. More than 500.000 copies were built of the MG B and the MG BGT together. The parties in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the MG B cannot be counted on one hand. The real diehards will of course go to England on 23 September to the beautiful Blenheim Palace, where the final happening will take place. During the weekend of 23 and 24 June, attention was paid to the fact that the MG was 50 during the Concours d'elegance at Paleis het Loo. Eight beautiful specimens were crowded to be chosen as the most beautiful MG B of the show. The prizes were awarded by Jaco Bijlsma, editor-in-chief of Autovisie.
